The laser marking machine uses a laser beam to make permanent marks on the surface of various materials. The effect of marking is to expose the deep material through the evaporation of the surface material, thereby engraving exquisite patterns, trademarks and text.
Speak of laser marking machine history, first let us talk about the category of marking machine, the marking machine can be divided into three categories, Pneumatic marking machine, laser marking machine, and electrical erosion marking machine
Pneumatic marking, it is a high frequency striking and marking on the object with compressed air by computer program control. It can mark a certain depth logo on the workpiece, the feature is that it can mark some big depth for the pattern and logo.
Laser marking machine, it is using the laser beam to mark and engrave on the object with permanent marking. The principle is that it’s marking and engraving elegant patterns, logos, and words by evaporating and removing the top layer of substance and then reveal the deep layer of substance.
Electrical erosion marking, it is mainly used for print a fixed logo or brand by electrical erosion, it’s like stamping, but one electrical erosion marking machine can only mark a fixed unchanged logo. It is not convenient for marking different kinds of logos.
First, Let’s take a look at the history of Pneumatic marking machine.
1973, Dapra marking company of USA developed the first Pneumatic marking in the world.
1984, Dapra marking company of USA developed the first handheld Pneumatic marking in the world.
2007, a Shanghai Company of China developed the first Pneumatic marking with the USB port.
2008, a Shanghai Company of China developed the first single – chip microcomputer based Pneumatic marking machine.
As we can see now, Pneumatic marking machine is an old technology, but anyway, it open’s the marking machine industry. After Pneumatic marking machine, it is the times of laser marking machine.
Then let’s take a look at the history of laser marking machine for metal (laser wavelength 1064nm).
The first generation laser marking machine is lamp pumped YAG laser marking machine. It is very big and with a low energy transfer efficiency. But it opened the laser marking industry.
The second generation is the Diode-pumped laser marking machine, it also can be subdivided into two development stage, Diode-side pumped solid-state YAG laser marking machine, then Diode-end pumped solid-state YAG laser marking machine.
Then the third generation is the fiber laser soured laser marking machine, briefly called fiber laser marking machine.
The fiber laser marking machine has a high energy using efficiency and could make with power from 10 watts to 2,000 watts according to laser marking, laser engraving, and laser cutting needs.
Fiber laser marking machine is now the mainstream laser marking machine for metal materials.
The laser marking for non-metal materials (laser wavelength 10060nm) are mainly co2 laser marking machine without the big change in the history.
And there are some new kinds of laser marking machine for higher-end application, for example, UV laser marking machine(laser wavelength: 355nm), green light laser marking machine (laser wavelength: 532nm or 808nm). Their laser marking effect is ultra-fine and ultra-precise, but their cost is not as affordable as the fiber laser marking and co2 laser marking machine.
So that’s all, the mainstream laser marking machine for metal and part of plastic non-metal materials is fiber laser marking machine; the mainstream laser marking machine for non-metal materials is co2 laser marking machine. And the mainstream high-end laser marking machine both for metal and non-metal is UV laser marking machine.
The laser technology’s development would not stop, BEC Laser will continue striving for the laser technology’s application, research, and development.
